ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING INFORMATION PLEASE
We have not been able to locate some information about EARL A. BRUCE on census prior to 1930, He is on the 1930 census Mason county Washington state, pickering precint on pickering road. It shows his age as 50. His son Lester's birth cert. shows him as 27 years old in 1920. I cannot find any other records on Earl Alfred Bruce Prior to 1920 other then 1930 census , his obit 1958 and his sons birth cert. 1920. Note 1878 treaty with Brule band of souix indians fort yates North dakota at that time was montana territory and bruce and brule similar in spelling, in his obit below bruce born fort yates 1880 montana and 1930 census it says he was born north dakota. Also note 1878 treaty says all indian agents will do a yearly census and give to commissoner of indian affairs at washington city this commissioner reports to secretary of state, there was also to be a sioux land book kept by the agency house on the reservation. also mention of a commissoner of the general land office, there are other documents to find United States Land Patents, some of these records may be under current offices of the us federal government or local sources, such as BLM, bureau of land management, more research to find. Fort Yates of today is on the Standing Rock Reservation and is in North Dakota but from 1864 to 1889 was Montana Territory, Ft Larime treaty signed 4/29/1868. Current council member for ft yates district is verna bailey, Sioux and or Brule band of sioux have their own web site. note my mother said she was at earl a. bruce's funeral with her husband my father lester earl bruce in 1958, we have zero knowledge of another son and two daughters as listed in his obit,there was a family friend in late 50s early sixtys called Al Lee? we have not gotten records from the baptist church in belfair,wa where funeral was as of yet or made inquiry as of yet , my father lester earl bruce always said he was an only child and never knew his father aparently less then accurate with current information. i have sent away for lester earl's service record and asked for his application for enlistment. Leora Bruce(james) is living in yakima wa county, wiley city, cottonwood ridge. during the 1920 census, dad's birth cert. her son lester earl bruce shows the birth in wapto,wa.6/7/1920, leora was born 6/8/1903.
